In the spirit of the Lunar New Year holiday, we are featuring some of our Asia-inspired rug designs!

In this rug, the monumental Great Wall of China winds its way across a mountainous stretch of the Chinese countryside. For those of you that have visited this Wonder of the World, it snakes along mountain ridges and dips through valleys on steep inclines. Traversing some sections of the Wall can be quite challenging!

We’ve captured this picturesque scene by representing the topography with multiple layers of deep greens. In contrast, the ribbon-like Wall structure is shown in a pale stone color with a slightly raised pile height.

This 'monumental' rug measures 2.0m wide by 4.5m in length. But as always, we are open to customization requests to produce the right size that suits your space. Get in touch with us via our website or our social media channels for more information on how you can get your hands (and your feet) onto one of these gorgeous rugs!

BEIJING RUG

In anticipation of next week’s Chinese New Year holiday and the upcoming Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, we are pleased to introduce our new Beijing Rug!

Beijing’s plan has some unique features that interested us and which we wanted to highlight in our rug design;

RING ROADS:

Encircling the Forbidden City are Beijing’s system of ring roads that create a prominent concentric pattern of circulation. The innermost rings are the most distinct of these roads, creating a chamfered square around the Forbidden City. This became the focus of our rug and eventually influenced its distinct shape. The corners of our 3m x 3m square rug are chamfered to highlight this feature.

Scroll through the diagrams above to see the elements of Beijing highlighted in our Signature Beijing rug design...

NORTH/SOUTH AXIS:

At the center of the city is the famed Forbidden City, the walled former Imperial Palace, with its striking symmetrical plan. This prominent North-South axis is reinforced by the subsequent placement of other monumental structures and squares of modern day Beijing. (Tiananmen Square, Mao’s Mausoleum as well as the ‘Bird’s Nest’ stadium and ‘Water Cube’ swimming pavilion of the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics.

COLORWAY |"THE PEOPLE'S RED":

Our Beijing rug is shown here in ‘The People’s Red’ colorway- a gradient of reds fades across the rug while the distinct road network appears in a darker monochromatic red. In Chinese culture, the red color represents joy and good fortune. New Year’s decorations, banners and ‘hong bao’ (small gift envelopes filled with money) are predominantly red for this reason. Some even consider it good luck to wear red underwear during the National Holiday!

Whatever traditions you practice, we wish you a Happy Year of the Tiger!

ALTERNATE ICY BLUE COLORWAY:

In contrast, we’re also showing this rug in an Icy Blue colorway especially to commemorate the upcoming 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games!

As always, we are pleased to field your requests for customizations. You can select an alternate size, different colors and change the shape to suit your tastes.
